Rhone-Alpes Region


The Rhone-Alpes Region is situated in the southeast of France. The second largest region in France, it is a highly developed area only next to Paris Region. It covers 45,000 square kilometers and has a population of 5.8 million. Its major cities are Lyon, Saint-tienne and Grenoble. Lyon, the largest city in the region, is the political, economic and cultural center.

Shanghai and the Rhone-Alpes Region established relationship of friendly exchange on 20 November 1986 and it was upgraded to sister-city relationship on 21 May  2008. Since 1986, the two sides have maintained close ties in trade, science and technology, culture, education, environmental protection and transportation and promoted mutual socio-economic development.
