Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng met with visiting Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo on the evening of April 16.

Han first extended a warm welcome to the Nigerian guests on behalf of the Shanghai Municipal Government and the local people.

"Thanks to the closer trade relationship between China and Nigeria," Han said, "Shanghai has seen a continuous growth in trade with the African country." Han added that he believes that the President''s China visit will further develop the friendship and trade between the two countries.

Han also described Shanghai''s recent social and economic achievements to the guests.

In return, Obasanjo thanked Han for Shanghai''s hospitality to both him and his delegation and highly praised Shanghai for its latest achievements.

Other city leaders present at the meeting included Zhang Shengkun, Hu Yanzhao and Song Yiqiao.
